I have never had to shade anything, but will have to keep that in mind. I love sunflowers too, and have a bunch planted, but they are only about 3" tall right now. By August, we'll be cookin' ;-)Jackihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03601691032325961639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577954446038205157.post-2905611902324252092009-06-26T21:39:06.594-05:002009-06-26T21:39:06.594-05:00Great idea with the umbrellas, you certainly are d...Great idea with the umbrellas, you certainly are dedicated...you've got some beautiful blooms going on...Thoughtfully Blended Heartshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13102061005480054019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577954446038205157.post-17195451222555738362009-06-26T15:17:36.767-05:002009-06-26T15:17:36.767-05:00LOL y'all... it's working, that's all ...LOL y'all... it's working, that's all I can say!

So see Tootsie, you are not alone!! And I dare my neighbors to say one thing to me about it. They're all kinda crazy too anyway!! Thanks for the votes - I've been voting for your blog too.

Mary is right of course - the most sensible and economical (I think??) way to go would be to build a frame or drive in posts and use shade cloth. Believe it or not that's hard to come by here for some reason but we're a beach town so umbrellas, they're a plenty! And pretty cheap. I already had a few and picked up a few more.

The umbrellas are working out great so that's what has worked here for me and they're movable too, so I can relocate them around the garden.

Siteseer, I think doing this actually did save some of my blossoms! I was having major blossom drop on everything because that's what happens at high temperatures. Since using the umbrellas they stopped and I see new blossoms! Yay!!Mary | Deep South Dishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06030573009618096220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577954446038205157.post-9961170363421836952009-06-26T13:21:52.558-05:002009-06-26T13:21:52.558-05:00Okay, I thought my husband was crazy when he was o...Okay, I thought my husband was crazy when he was out there shading the tomato plant with cardboard, but I can see that it is a common practice. I think the umbrella is a fabulous idea - it even adds more color :) Beautifulsiteseerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04695859504829821055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577954446038205157.post-84000025834100958202009-06-26T12:59:53.991-05:002009-06-26T12:59:53.991-05:00I once used umbrellas to shade my plants!!! Supported by poles at the corners, it can be suspended over the garden area. It's reusable from one year to the next if packed carefully away. The umbrellas look delightful in your garden.Mary Bergfeldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09234678984137982414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2577954446038205157.post-48701923929869790502009-06-26T11:40:03.775-05:002009-06-26T11:40:03.775-05:00The umbrellas are so clever!!
