GIVEAWAY! Best of the Best State Cookbook Series

It's hot. And muggy. And of course, I watered the veggies early this morning and now it keeps threatening rain. Happens every time - either I wait to water because it is supposed to rain and it only dribbles half the day, or I go ahead and water and it rains bucket loads. Can't win y'all!

I was going to grill some chicken but I wanted to do it on the Weber charcoal grill, instead of the gas grill. There is just something about grilling over charcoal that makes barbecue chicken so good and it's a flavor that you just can't get on the gas grill. Guess I'll have to see how the skies look in the next hour or two.

I've got some goodies in the pipeline for y'all but... in the meantime... I decided that I was in the mood for a giveaway!! Yay!

Remember those "Best of the Best State Cookbook Series" cookbooks I wrote about recently? I really love them, because they are not only full of recipes from well known & loved cookbooks from all across that state - generally at least 80 cookbook sources, sometimes even more - but they also contain bits of trivia & info about that state and some nostalgic tones. I am on the way with my collection of them, but hope to someday have one from every state! The recipes that I have made or slightly adapted, have all been excellent - I seriously have not run across one that was not great yet!

Well, I decided that I must give away a copy of one of these to one of my faithful readers!

But one isn't enough!

No, I'm giving away not 1. Not 2. But 3 of these fine cookbooks because I love y'all for puttin' up with me, and comin' back and readin' all this mess I write about and bein' so sweet with your comments. It's just my way of givin' y'all a big ole HUG and sayin' thanks for supporting me and my blog!

And, no, it doesn't have to be the one from Mississippi though that is a mighty fine one - it can be for your own state, your old home state you're homesick for, or for any state you choose! {please see rules}

Here's how to enter. Have a gander at this photo, then leave a comment and tell me what you think it is. That's it!

Bonus entries often win giveaways, so here's how to earn a few if you're so inclined.
  1. Become a follower, or subscribe to an RSS feed or by email (see upper left hand sidebar). Leave a separate comment and let me know. AND, because I appreciate all of you who read my blog and give me a reason to keep doing this ... if you already follow me in one of those ways, just leave a separate comment & let me know you're already a follower or subscribe for your bonus entry.
  2. Tweet about the giveaway {or just retweet my tweet} include a link to this post in your tweet & come back to leave a separate comment including the direct link to your tweet. {To do this, click on the "xx minutes ago" on your Twitter post, then copy the direct link to that page from your address bar.}
  3. Post a quick blurb about the giveaway on your blog & come back to leave a separate comment including the direct link to your post.

The Rules

1. Due to shipping issues, giveaway is open to residents of the U.S. only please.

2. Winners will be selected by a random draw.

3. Winner must send an email to mynew30 @ gmail . com {remove spaces}, and include their name and mailing address in order to collect their prize - cuz I'm feelin' mighty lazy with all this heat.

4. Winner must claim their prize within 48 hours of the time I post the winner on my blog or the prize will be forfeited.

5. This giveaway closes on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. CST. Winner will be announced on my blog sometime Saturday afternoon or evening. We'll be decorating the boat for the Blessing of the Fleet so not sure when we'll be back home to be honest.

6. I will make every effort to obtain a copy of the state cookbook you request, but if the one you choose is not in stock at the time of the drawing, I reserve the right to substitute & will ask that you choose from one or more alternate state cookbooks.

Good Luck!!!

  30. It's a gourd or squash--close up like that it's not a pretty sight LOL! I get your emails so I don't miss any of your fun blog stuff. Collect cookbooks and the ones with comments and local history are the best--almost like those mystery novels with recipes. Thanks for sharing the "south" with those of us who wish we lived there--yes, even with the heat and humidity--just keep thinking "dewey complexion" :-) CJ

  36. Just found the blog and LOVE it! My family makes that chocolate sheet cake (w/nuts!) and banana pudding from custard! I know I'm going to love following your blog. I'm still working on mine, but it will be about gardening and house renovating. Still recovering from Katrina, slowly but surely! Good luck with the give away. Oh, yeah, I didn't figure it out for myself, but it does look like squash (my fav) or a gourd!
