On the Way to Health with a Chili Cheeseburger Fix

10:30 p.m. last night I sent my husband to Sonic to get me a chili cheeseburger. Yep. Sure did.

And, for somebody just coming off of a stomach virus/bug/whatever, I know that sounds really odd,  but... right in that moment, when I had an instantaneous serious craving for a chili cheeseburger, I knew that the bug had passed.  And I knew I had to have a chili cheeseburger. Now.

It's true! Cross my heart - I swear! I have to say that it also made me smile because it had been a long time since I had even thought about the being sick, chili cheeseburger connection.

Ya see, way back long time ago, when I actually had any kind of a stomach issue in what now seems a past life, I always knew I was on the mend when I craved something greasy - and more specifically, for me, it had to be a hamburger, topped with cheese and chili. Soon as I ate one, I felt better, my energy level returned and I was a new person.

I have no idea how that started. I have no clue why a chili cheeseburger. But it was always a chili cheeseburger that I craved, and last night, I was trusting that my instincts and that my memory was right because, well... I didn't want a setback repeat... if ya know what I mean.

So, after very little food of any substance for four days, I thankfully, gratefully, and enthusiastically gobbled that chili cheeseburger down and waited.  And all was well.

And a side of tots didn't hurt at all either.

Ever had any weird food cravings that made you know that you were finally coming off of an illness?

  1. Yes, when you crave something and it sounds so good to you, you can be reasonably certain it will stay down, and make you feel much better. My craving would be for a burger and fries, sans chili. Glad you've recovered!

  3. They just opened a Sonic here! I'm guessing that the Chili Cheeseburger will be my husband's new fave! So glad that you're feeling better. How'd it "sit" with you at 11 PM? lol.

I used to crave Marie Callendar's Cherry Crumb Pie AND an order of fried mushrooms from a local restaurant late at night when I was pregnant and in the throes of morning sickness with my oldest.

Thank goodness for obliging husbands who will rush and help us realize our cravings!

  4. Yep, Karen. It had been a long time since I'd thought of that, but so funny how certain things stick with us!

Cyndy, we don't have an In n' Out burger here, and when I saw one in California on my trip out there, I so wanted to grab one in the drive through just to say I have finally tried one! We were on our way to the orchards for a tour, so I didn't. :( Maybe next trip there.

Krista, we rarely go to Sonic and usually when we do it's for the ice cream LOL!! That was actually the first chili cheeseburger I had from fast food in years, and yes, it sat great on the tummy. That's how I knew I was better!! That is an interesting craving - you know I didn't have odd cravings when I was pregnant. I always craved like a full meat, potatoes and veggie meal, but of course I wanted somebody else to fix it for me, and sadly my husband was no cook!!

    Thanks for stopping by y'all!
